This project lists walks organised by Ramblers' groups nationwide and is kept updated by volunteers who plan, check and lead the walks
The project aim was to make the website open to participation by hundreds of volunteers (without technical expertise) and to publicise activities to potential new members.
Walk details are uploaded via online forms or by uploading spreadsheets collated offline, walks can then be searched by location (postcode, town name etc), by difficulty, by distance you can even find all walks near Manchester in July on Tuesdays!
The key to the success of the project was balancing the needs of all users, making upgrades where required - but making sure that the system continued to work as expected for everyone
With over 50 000 walks entered and almost 500 added each week the project has been a huge success helping the charity achieve it's aim of getting people walking
